ED 870: Capstone Seminar
Instructor: Matthew Koehler
Through this course, I had the opportunity to reflect on my graduate coursework and see how I have grown as an educator. During this time, I created an electronic portfolio to showcase my coursework from the Master of Arts in Education program. Students have the opportunity to collaborate with one another and reflect upon the MAED program while putting together their electronic portfolios. My portfolio includes my transcript, resume, projects I completed during the program, and reflection essays. I loved having the opportunity to compile my work into an electronic portfolio and it was a wonderful way to finish the master's program!

TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructor: Dongbo Zhang
This class provided instructional practices and assessments which play a large role in students' reading and writing development. I learned through this course interventions and accommodations to implement in the classroom to address the needs of individual literacy learners. By administering a variety reading assessments, I learned how to analyze students' reading abilities and build upon their reading strengths and weaknesses. At the end of the course, I conducted an in depth case study on a struggling literacy learner and implemented research based interventions to address the reading needs of the student.

TE 842: Elementary Reading Assessment and Instruction
Instructor: Chad Waldron
This class expanded my knowledge on reading assessment and instruction through research based practices. This course allowed me to grow as a literacy educator and further develop my ability to assess students' reading. I learned about recommended literacy practices to implement within my classroom to boost my students overall reading abilities. For my final project, I had to analyze students' assessment data, create goals for instruction, and recommend instructional teaching strategies to improve the students' reading.

TE 848: Writing Assessment and Instruction
Instructor: Lisa Hawkins
This class focused on writing research, strategies, and the processes of writing assessment and instruction within the classroom. Through this course, I had the opportunity to explore expository, narrative, and poetic genres. With an heavy emphasis on writers workshops, we followed the steps of the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) to compose our own writing pieces. CEP 842: Content-Area Instruction for Students with Mild Disabilities
Instructor: Cynthia Okolo
This course provided me with an in depth range of knowledge of teaching mathematics, science, social studies in inclusive classrooms. Through this course I learned a variety of accommodations and modifications to implement in the general education setting. These accommodations further allow students with special needs be successful and participate fully in inclusive classrooms. As a special education teacher who was following an inclusion model at the time, I found this course be extremely beneficial to my own teaching profession. As a final project to this course, I put together a professional development presentation on teaching elementary math in the inclusive setting. I had the opportunity to share this presentation with my colleagues along with the additional teaching methods I gained through this course.

2010-2011 Coursework through Michigan State University
During my internship year at Michigan State University, I completed several graduate level courses which I was able to transfer into the MAED program. These courses were required for all of Michigan State University education graduates to complete during their fifth year. These courses included: CEP 801: Collaboration and Consultation in Special Education and CEP 802A/804 A: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Special Education I & II: Mild Impairment. In addition to the coursework, my teaching internship was an extremely rewarding experience which I will always remember. I had the unique opportunity to intern in a low income school in Lansing, Michigan in a fourth grade general education classroom for a semester and then transition into a K-3 resource room for a semester. Both of these experiences helped mold me into the educator in which I am today!
